John talks Fashion and Jewelry with Up-and-Coming Designers from Drexel University

John Wind discussing jewelry and accessories with Drexel University StudentsDrexel University student presents her jewelry collection to John Wind

Every year we offer graduating Drexel University fashion majors an award for the best use of fashion jewelry in a collection.

Jewlery is often an after-thought for the students, who understandably have a lot on their minds with just the clothes.

But as we all know, a well-accessorized outfit makes a big difference, both to how you look and how you feel!

With that in mind, last month I spoke to the students and gave them a fun presentation about the power of jewelry to transform and elevate a collection.

Then last week, I met with about a dozen of them one-on-one, to see what they’re thinking and bounce ideas back and forth about using jewelry to their advantage.

It was such a great experience!  The creativity was outstanding.  All they needed was the door opened, and through it they came…

Several admitted they never would have thought of adding jewelry to their shows, but now see how a laser-cut leather necklace or a pair of ‘Wonder Woman’ cuffs can send a strong message to the judges and the audience.

I can’t wait for the show and judging in early June. Stay tuned for the winner of this year's John Wind/Maximal Art Fashion Jewelry Award! And I'm sure you'll be seeing their work in stores before you know it!
